“If all were a single member, where would the body be? As it is, there are many members, yet one
body.” 1 Corinthians 12:19-20
The mission churches and ministries of the Presbytery of San Diego would like to thank you, the
16,000 members of the 31 churches in our Presbytery, for your generous donations and countless
hours of volunteer service as committee members, tutors, case workers, administrative assistants,
handymen, and for volunteering to perform every other job imaginable. Without you, our volunteers,
our mission programs would not exist.
Currently our presbytery staffs and administers two mission churches, Iglesia Hispana Presbiteriana
and the Sudanese Presbyterian Church, and two ministry programs, Presbyterian Urban Ministries
(formerly the Crisis Center) and Reality Changers. Continuously witnessing the love of Jesus Christ
to hundreds of individuals each week, we preach, teach, nurture, and counsel all that choose to
come through the door. Each of these programs is expanding and striving to change lives. See
below to learn more about the Presbytery of San Diego mission churches and ministries.
“…I assure you, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing
it to me.” Matthew 26:40
Each of these mission programs needs your prayers and participation. See below to learn more . . .
Iglesia Presbiteriana Hispana
Iglesia started 25 years ago with a pressing need and a visionary dream – unemployed Hispanic men
met with Rev. Tom Simpson each week for a nourishing meal and a big helping of faith. Today Pastor
Efraín Romero leads over 100 families in worship at Iglesia Presbiteriana Hispana each week. Also
offered are midweek Bible study groups and Friday night youth programs.

Sudanese-American Presbyterian Church
In 2002, each church in our Presbytery joined hearts, hands, and financial gifts to build a simple
center for worship for many of the over 3,000 Sudanese refugees that have struggled to make San
Diego their home. Today, the membership of the Sudanese church continues to hold Sunday
worship services and provide spiritual education for their children who are growing up suspended
between two cultures.

Baja Presbyterian Missions Inc.
Mission Purpose: For 50 years, Baja Presbyterian Missions has charted steady progress in
promoting Christ’s message of hope in four principal ways:
• by funding Presbyterian church-planting in Baja California
• by funding purchase of Baja real estate for Presbyterian church development
• by funding and overseeing Baja Presbyterian church construction
• by supplementing Baja Presbyterian pastoral salaries until church self-sufficiency
Mission History: The partnership with our brothers and sisters living south of the border originated
in 1962, Baja Presbyterian Missions’ charter year. The mission vision was brought into focus by the
founders, a group which included Roland and Kay Taylor of La Jolla Presbyterian Church, who
devoted their time, talent, love, and devotion to building up the National Presbyterian Church in Baja
California. In the 1990s, the Taylors left to Baja Presbyterian Missions $700,000 in four trust
accounts with the Presbyterian Foundation. Annual interest and dividends from these investments
now provide a little less than half the amount needed by the expanding Mexican northwest border
presbytery, a dynamic collection of 18 Spanish-speaking Presbyterian churches in eight Baja cities.
In 2010, Baja Presbyterian Missions committed to helping the Mexican presbytery achieve an
ambitious goal of developing five new churches in Baja.
Mission-Field Opportunities: Baja Presbyterian Missions joyfully welcomes public participation in
three easy-to-handle, one-day mission-field programs. An annual day trip provides a tour of three
Baja Presbyterian churches on the second Saturday in April. As needed throughout the year, the
mission recruits Saturday teams of volunteers from San Diego churches to work with Baja
congregations to repair Baja church campus buildings structurally and cosmetically. And currently in
development is a new annual trip to transport members of San Diego Presbyterian churches to Baja
Presbyterian churches to strengthen cross-cultural connection through a shared Sunday worship
service.
