The mission churches and ministries of the Presbytery of San Diego would like to thank you, the 16,000 members of the 31 churches in our Presbytery, for your generous donations and  countless hours of volunteer service as committee members, tutors, case workers, administrative assistants, handymen, and for volunteering to perform every other job imaginable.  Without you, our volunteers, our mission programs would not exist.

Currently our presbytery staffs and administers two mission churches, Iglesia Hispana Presbiteriana and the Sudanese Presbyterian Church, and two ministry programs, Presbyterian Urban Ministries (formerly the Crisis Center) and Reality Changers. Continuously witnessing the love of Jesus Christ to hundreds of individuals each week, we preach, teach, nurture, and counsel all that choose to come through the door. Iglesia Presbiteriana Hispana

Iglesia started 25 years ago with a pressing need and a visionary dream – unemployed Hispanic men met with Rev. Tom Simpson each week for a nourishing meal and a big helping of faith.  Today Pastor Efraín Romero leads over 100 families in worship at Iglesia Presbiteriana Hispana each week.  Also offered are midweek Bible study groups and Friday night youth programs.

Sudanese-American Presbyterian Church

In 2002, each church in our Presbytery joined hearts, hands, and financial gifts to build a simple center for worship for many of the over 3,000 Sudanese refugees that have struggled to make San Diego their home.    Today, the membership of the Sudanese church continues to hold Sunday worship services and provide spiritual education for their children who are growing up suspended between two cultures.

Presbyterian Urban Ministries (formerly Crisis Center)

Located in the heart of San Diego, PUM offers emergency and employment assistance to individuals and families living at or below the poverty level in the form of food, clothing, transportation,  obtaining required employment paperwork, access to job-search tools and counseling.  Prayer is offered and shared throughout each day.

Reality Changers

Reality Changers (RC) is a tutoring program with a proven formula that works.  RC is effective because they emphasize teaching students what they should do – as opposed to wasting everyone’s time telling them what not to do.  RC has successfully built a growing cadre of first generation college students who follow God’s word.  Through strong leadership and committed volunteers, RC is making a difference!
