Missions Committee

I. Membership

The Missions Committee shall consist of twelve (12) members divided into three classes of four each. The membership of the committee, as well as its subcommittees, is to be balanced as closely as possible to one-third laymen, one-third laywomen, and one-third clergy.

II. Accountability

A. The Standing Committee on Missions shall be directly accountable to, and shall report directly to, Presbytery.

B. The Missions Committee shall hold stated meetings and may, with due notice, hold special meetings as called by the Chair or by two (2) members of the committee through the Executive Presbyter.

III. Duties

The Presbytery of San Diego's Mission Study calls for a renewed focus on mission. The Missions Committee shall provide leadership in interpreting local, national and global mission projects throughout the Presbytery of San Diego. This involves a new openness to diversity in membership and to ecumenical ministries as we share in worship, fellowship and nurture under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

The Missions Committee shall:

A. Interpret local, national and global mission efforts of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) to all member churches of the Presbytery of San Diego, and provide opportunities for support, education and mission interpretation;

B. Encourage, support and provide opportunities for mission interpretation for local Presbytery-wide mission projects to include Presbyterian Crisis Center, Military Outreach Ministries, Sudanese-American Presbyterian Fellowship and Iglesia Presbyteriana Hispana. These opportunities may include “Good News Reports” at stated Presbytery meetings, organizing an annual Presbytery-wide mission fair, Alternative Christmas Markets, Moments for Mission, etc.

C. Provide education, awareness and assistance to PCUSA congregations seeking guidance in determining their mission giving to Presbyterian mission efforts (local, national and global), ecumenical ministries and inter-faith services in San Diego and Imperial Counties.

D. Designate and provide oversight for any individual representing the Presbytery on an ecumenical council or at other ecumenical activities.
